When Leighton Lam first began using resin to make surfboards in 1965 he had no idea that his love of surfing would launch him on a lifetime journey as an artist. As Leighton poured colored resin over the boards, he was intrigued by its potential as an art medium. His passionate exploration of creating paintings and sculpture with resin resulted in 72 solo exhibits and numerous awards in Juried group shows Today Leighton is recognized as a "master" of the resin medium. In 1979, Leighton started transforming his resin art into jewelry. Soon, boutiques throughout the United States wereselling his earrings. In the early 1980's his work was in over 300 stores, this contributed to creating the "Art to Wear" look. When the country's economy slowed down in the 1990's Leighton directed his focus back to his island home. Leighton say's, "I decided to create Hawaiian images for the 'tailored' jewelry market. My goal was to develop a collectionthat reflected the beauty and symbols of the Islands with the dignity they so deserve. The pieces had to be made with highest quality designs, materials and craftsmanship. "After two years of research and testing, I found that by etching my original art onto sheets of brass, then giving them gold silver and patina finishes, the art became jewelry. I named this continually growing collection 'The Hawaiian Nature Collection and Hawaiian Quilt Designs'. I hope you will enjoy all of the Aloha that goes into making them". Leighton lives on the island of Oahu with Lani, his wife and business partner, and their two children, Kaily and Lucas. From their home they can see the ocean embracing Diamond Head where Leighton's family spends weekends surfing and sailboarding. Leighton Lam fully guarantees his work.
